To work properly, a hydraulic brake needs the seal on the push rod to move behind the timing port when released. This equalizes the pressure of the oil between the pistons/hose and the master cylinder and allows for heat expansion. That’s what lets the pads fully retract and prevents them from closing down if things get too hot.
